من عناوين دائرة المعارف الحسينية الكبرى الشعر الذي قيل في الإمام الحسين (رضي الله عنه) رثاء ومديحا ووصفا لواقعة الطف وما جرى فيها من أحداث أليمة من استشهاده واستشهاد إخوانه أبنائه وأصحابه، ووصف حال النساء والأخوات والأطفال بعد الإستشهاد وما جرى لهم من سبي إلى الشام وما استتبع ذلك من عودة لهم إلى كربلاء ثم إلى المدينة المنورة.
ولقد آلى الشيخ محمد صادق محمد الكرباسي على نفسه إدراج كل القصائد التي نظمت أو أنشئت في هذا الشأن ابتداءً بالقرن الأول الهجري إلى قرننا الحالي القرن الخامس عشر الهجري، فكان ديوان القرن الأول والثاني والثالث والرابع والخامس والسادس والسابع والثامن والتاسع والعاشر.
ومن هنا لا يستغربن امرؤ أن يكون هذا الديوان (القرن العاشر الهجري) حاوياً على مستدركات لدواوين القرون العشرة الأولى، لأن المؤلف أراد أن تكون هذه الموسوعة موسوعة تامة شاملة كاملة فالزم نفسه على ذكر كل معلومة جديدة أو قصيدة جديدة يحصل عليها أو تصل إليه في المستدركات من الأجزاء الجديدة.
