الشارقة صيف أبدي. هنا، الشمس لا تعرب، فمع بداية المساء تشرق شمس هذه المدينة في قلبي. لقد أحببتها في نهاراتها، كما في لياليها، وحيثما ذهبت حملتها معي، لأني أمضيت بين شوارعها لحظات ساحرة: إنها إعادة صناعة حياة شخصية.
مع بداية الصباح، حين يتوضأ الفجر استعداداً للصلاة، يسيل الليل في مجرى صغير، ثم يلملم نفسه، ويتوجه نحو سوق السمك، أو يرتاح قليلاً تحت رولة. لأن الشمس تترك تأثيرها متوهجاً طوال الوقت.
قبل ربع القرن الخير، أي في نهاية صيف سنة 1975، كان "ِشارع الوحدة" يستقبل زوار الشارقة بفراسة وحكمة من يعرف تاريخه: الوحدة بوابة الشارقة، والوحدة رسالتها، والوحدة قدرها، لكنها الوحدة في إطار التنوع، والفرد الذي يتجوهر في العالم.
لماذا أحب هذه المدينة؟ لماذا صارت المدن الأخرى ماضياً؟ هل حدث هذا لأن شبابي أعاد صياغة ماضيه هنا؟ أم لأن سنواتي الخمسين استحالت شباباً دائماً؟
