لا ينكر أحد أن التقدم المادى الذى ننعم به اليوم هو من إنتاج التقدم الفكرى ولا ينكر أحد أيضا أن الارتجال من طبيعته الا ينتج الا عملا أهوج قليل الفائدة أما التفكير العلمى المقنن والتخطيط المسبق هما اللذان يرفعان من مستوى الانتاج الفكرى المتقدم سواء فى مجال العلوم الطبيعية أو العلوم الانسانية وهو الاساس للتقدم المادى فالأبحاث العلمية الجيدة فى مجال العلوم الطبيعية كانت سببا فى تقدم الزراعة والصناعة وغيرها من مستلزمات الحياة المادية والأبحاث العلمية الجيدة فى مجال العلوم الانسانية كانت سببا فى تقدم أساليب الادارة الللازمة للتقدم العلمى والرقى بالمؤسسات التربوية والمهنية وبالرغم من الانتشار الواسع لطرق البحث العلمى ووسائله إلا أن البحث فى العلوم الانسانية لم يحقق التقدم الذى حققته العلوم الطبيعية سواء من حيث المفاهيم والمبادىء والتعميمات المستخدمة فى تلك العلوم أو من حيث الطرق والأساليب المتبعة فيه وهذا ما دعا بعض الباحثين الى القول بضرورة اتباع طرق خاصة بالعلوم الانسانية والبحث العلمى بحكم أنه نشاط واسع ومتنوع يستخدم فيه الباحثون للوصول للمعرفة الكثير من المناهج والأساليب على الرغم من اختلاف مسمياتها وتصنيفاتها الا أنها متداخلة بدرجة كبيرة وتعتمد على بعضها البعض بصورة ملحوظة وهذا ما دفع العلماء الى محاولة تصنيفها وترتيبها تيسيرا على الباحثين إلا أنه لا توجد حدود فاصلة تماما تميز منهج على آخر كما أنه لا يعنى أفضلية منهج على منهج ومن هنا كان هذا الكتاب عن هذا الموضوع المهم فقدمنا له مدخل عن البحث العلمى مفاهيمه أساسياته تصنيفاته والعينات وطرق اختيارها ثم عرض تفصيلى لأهم مناهج البحث العلمى المنهج التاريخى المنهج الوصفى وأنواعه المسحى الوثائقى الحلقى تحليل المحتوى السببى المقارن الارتباط التتبعى المنهج التجريبى المنهج الاكلينيكى.
