جورج شامي: ولد عام ١٩٣١ في بيروت.
—صنف أستاذاً جامعياً بدرجة دكتوراه دولة من الجامعة اللبنانية عام ١٩٧٨.
—عين مديراً لكلية الإعلام والتوثيق في الجامعة اللبنانية في أواخر كانون الثاني ١٩٧٨ (الفرع الثاني) حتى أيلول ١٩٨١، حيث قدم استقالته.
اتخذ الصحافة مهنة له عام ١٩٥٢، وبدأ بممارستها في جريدة «النهار»، ومنها انتقل للعمل في الصحف والمجلات والوكالات التالية؛ محرراً ومديراً ورئيساً للتحرير: «صدى لبنان»، «الحياة»، الشراع»، «العمل»، «الرأي العام» في الكويت، «الاقتصاد اللبناني والعربي»، «الوكالة الوطنية للأنباء» «الحسناء»، «الأسبوع العربي»، «الأنوار»، «الوطن العربي»، في باريس، و«المشاهد السياسي» في لندن.

جمع جورج شامي في ((الحلم والحنين في الذاكرة الحدباء) مقالات له في مجال الصحافة الأدبية، وقد نشر معظم هذه النقديات في "الوطن العربي" الصادرة في باريس، في تسعينيات القرن العشرين وبداية القرن الواحد والعشرين مع غيرها من الوقفات المنيرية، أرادها المؤلف مرآة لكل العرب لا تنحصر في الحركة الثقافية اللبنانية المحلية بل تتوجه إلى كل ناطق بلغة الضاد، تعرّفه إلى أهم ما كُتب في تلك الحقبة في الرواية والشعر والمسرح والدراسات الأدبية المتنوعة؛ وأما مروحة الكتاب فهي تتألف من شخصيات لبنانية وعربية، إسلامية ومسيحية، شرق أوسطية وأوروبية ومنهم: غسان تويني، عبد العزيز عبد المحسن التويجري، غادة السمان، رواد طربيه، عادل إسماعيل، جوزف أبو جودة، جميل جبر، جوزف أبي ضاهر، عزمي بشارة، شكيب خوري ... وعشرات غيرهم. فجاءت صفحات الكتاب لتشتمل على مئة وثلاث مقالات تتراوح بين تعليق سريع ومقتضب ومقالة كاملة أو دراسة مستوفية كل شروط المقالة العلمية أو النقدية التامة.
من عناوين الكتاب نذكر: "مداخلة حول كتاب" تاريخ لبنان كما كان" ، "مداخلة في جامعة اللويزة فؤاد حداد والقضية اللبنانية" ، "في ذكرى فؤاد سليمان كتاباتك مادة حياة لا نهاية لها" ، "الطيب الصالح في "عرس الزين" رائحة اللبن ورائحة التمور" ، "سعد الله ونوس وأغنيات الرحيل مشروع ثقافي وطني لم يكتمل" (...) وعناوين أخرى.
