من منا لا يعرف اليابان، البلد الصناعي العملاق في قارة آسيا. ومن منا ينسى قبل هذه النهضة العظيمة مأساة هيروشيما وناغازاكي، ومن لم يسمع بثورة "الميجي" (سنة 1867-1868) التي نقلت هذه البلاد إلى حقبة جديدة في تاريخها هي حقبة الرأسمالية. ومن منا لا ينبهر بآداب السلوك اليابانية المتميزة باللباقة والنعومة وغاية الرقة، ومن لم يسمع بالشنتوية والبوذية، وأخيراً من منا لا تأسره روعة قصائد "الهايكو"، التي طارت شهرتها في الآفاق لتتسابق مع أحدث السيارات اليابانية والأجهزة المنزلية الإلكترونية، التي تغزو العالم بأكمله، بدءاً من جاراتها الآسيويات وانتهاء بأمريكا قلعة الرأسمالية العالمية وقمة التطور الصناعي في أواخر القرن العشرين. ولكن هل صحيح ما يقال: إن اليابان عملاق صناعي وقزم ثقافي؟؟؟. أو بعبارة أخرى هل تتناسب مظاهر النهضة الرفيعة جداً على أصعدة العلم والثقافة والصناعة مع المستويات الثقافية والفكرية لهذا الشعب، الذي بهر العالم ببراعته ولباقته وقدرته على النقل وسرعته في التصنيع والدخول إلى كل بيت في العالم؟؟
هذه الأسئلة وغيرها كانت وراء تأليف المفكر يوري كوزلوفسكي لكتابه، الذي بين أيدينا والذي يدور حول مسألة أساسية ومركزية، تتمثل في إشكالية الأصالة والمعاصرة في الفكر الياباني الحديث، وما يتفرع عنها من مسائل هامة أخرى يأتي في مقدمتها الموقف من الفكر الغربي بعامة، ومن التيارات والاتجاهات الفلسفية الغربية الكبرى بخاصة.
يناقش المؤلف في هذا الكتاب إشكالية الأصالة والمعاصرة كما يثيرها المفكرون اليابانيون بدءاً من عهد الميجي (1868)، أي إشكالية الحفاظ على التراث القديم والانفتاح في الوقت نفسه على الفكر الغربي، الذي أصبح يشكل أحد الروافد الأساسية للثقافة العليمة-الوطنية.
