في خضم الأحداث المأساوية في العصر الحديث، لا بد من التنفيس للكربة، وتبديد للهموم بشكل وآخر، ذلك مما يساعد على تخفيف الضغط المهيمن على النفس.
وكان السبيل إلى ذلك التماس طرائف الحكمة تجاوباً مع ما ورد في الأثر: إن القلوب لتملّ فالتسموا بها طرائف الحكمة؛ فجاء هذا الكتاب بما ضم بين دفتيه من طرائف الحكم ونوادر الآثار، وقبسات الأدب، وما اشتمل عليه من الأمثال السائرة، والروايات المأثورة، ورقيق الشعر، ومما سنح لي في كتاب، أو علق في الذاكرة، ومما قرأت أو رويت أو سمعت.
فرأيت ان أجمع متفرقاتها، وألمّ شتاتها في هذا المؤلف، عسى أن ينتفع بها الناس وأنتفع، ناظراً في ذلك إلى أثرين: الأول: ما روي أنه قال رجل من الأنصار لرسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: إني لأسمع الحديث ولا أحفظ، فقال فيما يروى: (استعن بيمينك) أي: اكتبه، فكتبه، الثاني: بما نسب إلى الإمام جعفر بن محمد الصادق عليه السلام أنه قال: (قيّدوا العلم بالكتابة) فقيدته.
واحسب أن ما ورد هنا من النوادر والطُرف من ذلك في روايات والأخبار، والحكم والآثار، والمنتخب من الأقوال، وأسميته: (نوادر وطرائف) جعله الله تعالى في ميزان الأعمال، ولا حول ولا قوة إلا بالله العلي العظيم، عليه توكلت وإليه أنيب، وهو حسبنا ونعم الوكيل.
