تتميز الفلسفة الأنجلوسكسونية عن نظيراتها الفلسفة الفرنسية والفلسفة الألمانية بالطابع العلمي، إذ أنها علمية بالأساس، سواء من حيث الموضوعات والحقول الفلسفية التي طرقتها، او من حيث المناهج وآليات استخدامها، أو من حيث الغايات التي تصبو إليها؛ أي من حيث الدقة واليقين في أحكامها الفلسفية، ومنها على وجه الخصوص الأحكام الأكسيولوجية.
ولعل هذا ما يضيف ميزة أخرى للفلسفة الأنجلوسكسونية، تتمثل في التحوّل في جوهر التفلسف من إشكالية المذهاب إلى إشكالية المناهج، بحيث يمكننا ان نصطلح على تسميتها بــ "فلسفة المناهج وطرائق التفكير"، كما أن معظم فلاسفتها يشتغلون بطابع جمعي حيث يشكلون دوائر وحلقات فكرية - علمية.
لقد قاعد هذا الطرح العلمي - الفلسفية إلى ثورة معرفية ومنهجية خلال القرنين السابع عشر والثامن عشر، وأدى ذلك الخطاب العلمي الجديد إلى خطاب فلسفي جديد أيضاً، ففي مطلع القرن العشرين انقسمت الفلسفة إلى كتلتين مختلفتين جدّاً هما: الفلسفة المسماة "قارية" والفلسفة التحليلية المؤثرة غالباً في البلاد الأنجلوسكسونية، هذه الاخيرة تنسب إلى هيدغر أكثر من ديكارت، وإلى فريجه أكثر من كانط، وإلى راسل وفيتجنشتين أكثر من نيتشه أو هيدغر، فهي ذات نزعة تجريبية ومنطقية معاً (رغم أن التجريبية المنطقية التي نراها عند كارناب "Carnap" لم تكن سوى أحد تياراتها)، أنها تفضل التحليل المنطقي اللغوي على التركيب، وتنسب إلى الواقعية أكثر من المثالية، وتهتم أكثر بحال العلوم من الإهتمام بماضي وتاريخ الفلسفة، وتعلّق أهمية أكبر للوضوح ودقة المحاجة، إنها طريقة أخرى لمعارضة هيغل باسم المنطق واللغة والعلم أكثر من مقولات الحياة والتاريخ والذاتية.
