هذا الكتاب يسرد كاتبه الرحالة الإيطالي كارلو غوارماني أحداث رحلته التي بدأها من القدس في أواخر يناير 1864م [شعبان 1280هـ]، ميمما مدينة عنيزة في القصيم بهدف شراء خيول عربية أصيلة، والعودة في أواخر مايو 1864م [ذو الحجة 1280هـ].
يقدم الكاتب وصفاً رصيناً لأحوال الجزيرة العربية قبل قرن ونصف من الزمن من خلال تجواله بين قرى وبلدات شمال نجد، وبين البدو الرحل من قبائل الجزيرة العربية.
وقد أظهر الكاتب معرفته الوثيقة بحياة البادية وناسها حين قام بتدوين مشاهد مثيرة من أحداث المعارك القبلية، والمواقف التي تعرض لها، ومعاناته الشخصية عندما نجا من الموت بأعجوبة.
