كانت الجنة قُرة عيون المحبين ومحط أشواق قلوب العارفين أسهروا ليلهم في سبيلها وأظمؤوا نهارهم من أجلها وبذلوا كل غال ونفيس مهراً وعربوناً لدخولها. فالطريق إذاً إلى هذه الجنة يحتاج إلى زادٍ من التقوى وعمل متواصل من الخير وجهاد دؤوب لشيطان وعراك مستمر مع النفس والهوى.
ولو أنصف العبد لرأى أن وجود هذه الجنة وما فيها من النعيم من لوازم العقل والحكمة ومقتضيات العدالة الإلهية إذ بها ينال المحسن جزاء إحسانه وأجر عمله كما أن النار حق لا بد منها ليكتوي بحرّها ولظاها أولئك الذين اتبعوا أهواءهم وعاثوا في الأرض فساداً.
وقد ألف كثير من العلماء كتباً خاصة في موضوع صفة الجنة منها كتاب حادي الأرواح وهو اسم جميل اختاره ابن القيم لهذا الكتاب طابق ما بين مبناه ومعناه وكان حريصاً أن يعرض كل ما وصل إليه من الدولة التي تتعلق بموضوعه ولم يدخر وسعاً في تجليه جوانبه رغبة في إيصال هذه المعاني إلى الأذهان وترغيباً للناس في سلوك دروب الجنان وإبداع فيما وصل إليه من ترتيب وتبويب.
فالكتاب في مضمونه وفي مبناه ومعناه ذو أهمية بالغة ومرجع مهم ومفيد لمن أراد الوقوف على ما يتعلق بصفة الجنة ونعيمها.
