الذاكرة الشفهية هي خطاب شفهي تتبناه جماعة تبعاً للموقع الإجتماعي وهو يعكس التغييرات التي طرأت على حياة الجماعة ويعبر عن الحاجة الى إعادة تعريف هوية أصلية ينظر إليها على أنها في خطر.
إنه خطاب متنوع إلى حد كبير، لا يفترض أن يكون خطاباً ماضوياً فقط، إذ يمكن تصور الماضي بوصفه عاملاً محدداً لدينامية قادمة. وإن ما نسميه خطاباً عن الماضي يمكن أن نسميه خطاباً عن التغيير أو خطاب الجماعة عن نفسها أو خطاب الهوية، على اعتبار أن وعي الذات هو المطروح دائماً في هذا الخطاب، رغم تنوع البواعث التي تحركه.
مشروعنا يصب في دائرة إحياء الذاكرة الشعبية بوصفه مهمة وطنية ووثيقة لمأساة عاشها أهلنا.. فالفلسطيني ينتقل في ذاكرته الفطرية بين مكان غائب موجود في الذاكرة ومكان مضى واندثر، وهو يدخل ومنذ بداية التسعينيات إلى زمن ملتبس لا وضوح فيه، فتارة هو أمام حلم العودة وتارة أخرى أمام فقدان الهوية، لذلك تبدو الكتابة الفلسطينية عن المكان محاربة للنسيان واستجلاباً للأمل.
