هذه الدراسة الممتازة والجيدة فى موضوعها كانت فى الصل أطروحة لنيل درجة الماجستير فى الدراسات الإفريقية. وهى تبرز سؤال ما صلة دور قوة دفاع السودان بشأن الإسلام فى أفريقيا؟ والجابة وتكمن في إن استقلال السودان جاء نتيجة لعاملين العامل الأول هو الكسب والجهاد السياسي لمؤتمر الخريجين الذي مثل ضغطاً على دولتي الحكم الثنائي يأن السودانيين قد تأهلوا لنيل استقلاهم وأدراه شئون بلادهم. ولكن لعل الأثر الأكبر يكمن لذلك فى بلاء قوة دفاع السودان خلال الحرب بإثيوبيا وإرتريا وهو العامل الثاني مما جعل هناك دينناً واجب السداد على الإمبراطورية البريطانية وفاءاً لجهاد قوات دفاع السودان ووفاءاً لشعارات تقرير المصير التى رفعها الحلفاء حيث وعدوا إنهم سيعطوا الشعوب المستعمرة حق تقرير مصيرها بعد الحرب العالمية الثانية. ولذلك يمكن القول بأن إنجاز استقلال السودان يمثل انجازا لحركة الإسلام فى أفريقيا.
