برز ذلك في حركات تمرده وعصيانه في العهد التركي.. تلك التحركات التي أزعجت السلطات الدخيلة وهزت هيبتها وأعدت التربة الصالحة لنمو بذور المهدية على أرضنا الطيبة.. البذور التي قدر لها فيما بعد أن ترتوي بدمه عندما قدم هذا الدم -عن طواعية- لتقوم أمجاد المهدية على كتفيه.
في كل العهود كان يتخذ مواقعه المتقدمة، ومع تعدد هذه المواقع وكثرتها كانت السمة المميزة لمواقفه هي الصلابة والعناد.. النصر أو القبر.
وطوال سبعة عشر عاماً بعد الاستقلال تشبث براية وجدة التراب ورفعها عالية خفاقة بينما هبت الرياح من كل جانب عاصفة مهددة.
إنه الجندي الوحيد في أفريقيا الذي قدر له أن يعاني كل هذه المعاناة وأن يبذل كل هذا البذل.
وهذا الكتاب يتناول سلسلة من ملاحمه البطولية في مرحلة حافلة من مراحل نضاله.
لقد كانت حرب القلابات في جوهرها حرباً محلية ولكن آثارها كانت وخيمة على الدولتين، وذلك لأن جهداً كبيراً قد بذل من الطرفين من أجلها، وقد عاق ذلك الجهد المبذول من قبل الحبشة لصد الغزو الإيطالي فتقدم الإيطاليون مستغلين انشغال الحبشة بالصراع الداخلي وكسبت المهدية عدواً جديداً يواجهها مواجهة مباشرة وبدرجة أكثر خطورة من الحبشة. لقد هزم الإيطاليون جيوش الخليفة في واقعة اقوردات ثم احتلوا كسلا.
ولكن الدولتين قد وعتا الدرس بعد محصول القلابات ومن ثم كان انكماش النشاط العسكري وبذل الجهد المتواصل لتعميق الصداقة الأزلية بين البلدين.
