العلاقة التاريخية بين الأردن وفلسطين قديمة ومتينة، تواصلت خلال الحكم العثماني، ثم الانتداب البريطاني. ثم تشكلت العلاقة الأردنية الفلسطينية بعد عام 1923، ثم بعد حرب عم 1948، والوحدة بين الضفتين عام 1950، وحرب حزيران عام 1967، حتى قرار فك الارتباط عام 1988. واتسمت هذه العلاقات بالمتانة والأخوة، التي تضمن مصالح الشعبين الشقيقين.
وتحاول هذه الدراسة في ضوء تحليلات واقعية ونظرية وقانونية؛ دراسة قرار فك الارتباط الصادر عن الحكومة الأردنية سنة 1988، الذي جاء نتيجة لقرارات سابقة كإنشاء منظمة التحرير الفلسطينية سنة 1964، ومؤتمر القمة العربي في الرباط سنة 1974، إذ لعبت تلك القرارات دوراً مهما في قرار فك الارتباط القانوني والإداري الذي جاء منسجماً مع الرغبة العربية، وذلك لإقامة علاقة مستقبلية بين الكيانين بمعطيات وأسس واعتبارات جديدة.
وتتناول هذه الدراسة العلاقات الأردنية - الفلسطينية منذ تأسيس إمارة شرق الأردن عام 1970 وحتى عام 1988، لفهم تسلسل العلاقة التاريخية والأسباب التي أدت إلى صدور قرار فك الارتباط، ثم تنبع مستقبل هذه العلاقات بعد ذلك القرار، من خلال تحليل أسبابه وآثاره ونتائجه.
