هذه الفصول ليست مذكرات شخصية، ولا هي سيرة ذاتية، بل هي في الغالب تداعيات من الذاكرة، رفدت بمقتطفات من كتابات سابقة جاءت في مواكبة الأحداث الجارية. وهي بالتأكيد ليست بحثاً علمياً، يعتمد الوثائق، ويستند إلى المصادر، أو سرداً تاريخياً يقوم على التسلسل الزمني أو الترابط الحديث دوّنها المؤلف كما انسابت في الخاطر، اختزالاً لما ظلت تحمله في الذاكرة من السلوك الخاص في إطار مجرى العام.
فالغرض من هذا الكتاب هو عرض لتجربة شخصية عاشها المؤلف؛ وحاول التعامل مع المتغيرات الضخمة التي طرأت على أوضاع شعبه الفلسطيني نتيجة لقيام الكيان الصهيوني باحتلال أرضه، وهو في الحالتين تحت الاحتلال أو في صفوف الثورة الفلسطينية المعاصرة، لم يتيسر له سبيل الانسجام بين الخاص والعام فبقي معارضاً، ولتشبثه بقناعاته عاش ما له من عدم الاستقرار. ولأنه على ثقة بأن الصراع في المنطقة وفي القلب منه القضية الفلسطينية لن ينتهي عند حدود مشاريع التسوية المطروحة، فقد اندفع لتسجيل تجربته عبر رواية تغطي المرحلة ما بين انتمائه إلى الثورة والخروج من بيروت. وفي فصول الكتاب حاول المؤلف محاكمة القضايا بالاستناد إلى منطلقات حركة فتح، وبرنامجها السياسي ونظامها الداخلي بشكل عام.
