هذه رسالة حررها المؤلف لإظهار الجانب النقدي لدى علماء الإسلام في القرنين السادس والسابع الهجري، من خلال عنايتهم بتصحيح كتب الأوائل من أهل العلم.
والنقد يتمثل في إلحاق الألفاظ والأسماء الساقطة سهواً من المؤلف أو الناسخ، وتصحيح ما وقع منهما من تصحيف وتحريف في الألفاظ والأسماء، وضبط المشكل منها، ثم إثبات الفروق التي بين نسخ الكتاب الواحد، وغيرها من أصول الضبط والتصحيح التي من شأنها تقويم الكتاب وإخراجه موافقاً لمراد صاحبه.
ومن هذا التصحيح تظهر عناية أهل العلم، ودقتهم، وأمانتهم في حفاظهم على نص المؤلف دون التصرف فيه، وذلك بكتابة إستدراكاتهم على أطراف الكتب أو الإشارة لها بين السطور، وقد جاءت هذه الرسالة بعنوان: "أنموذج من عناية علماء الإسلام المتقدمين بتصحيح الكتب وضبط نصوصها (دراسة موجزة منتقاة من تحقيقي لــ: "جزء الثمانين حديثاً عن ثمانين شيخا" للحافظ محمد بن الحسين الآجري (ت 360هــ).
