يهدف هذا الكتاب إلى تذكرة الشعوب الإسلامية والعربية بماضيها وإلى دعوتها إلى النهوض والنظر إلى المستقبل وإلى دعوة الحكومات إلى رعاية العلماء ورعاية أهل الفكر والمعرفة. يضم هذا الكتاب بعض من أعمال أئمة الفكر والمعرفة والعلوم من القرن الأول الهجري إلى القرن الثامن الهجري. الباب الأول: تعريف بالدولة الإسلامية ابتداء من الدولة الأموية إلى نهاية الدولة الفاطمية، الباب الثاني: تلخيص الأعمال في العلوم الأساسية خلال هذه الفترة في مجالات الطب والرياضيات والكيمياء والزراعة والفنون الهندسية، الباب الثالث: تجميع لأهم العلماء وأهل الفكر مرتبة وفقاً للترتيب الزمني لحياتهم وبداية أنشطتهم.
