يتحدث هذا الكتاب عن الخطاط محمد بدوي الديراني (1894-1967م) وهو من كبار خطاطي دمشق، وأكثر ما اشتُهر عن بدوي تميزه في الخط الفارسي، فأسلوبه مستقر على السطر وحروفه حادة، فهي تنتمي بجمالها إلى بعض أساليب الطريقة الإيرانية كأسلوب عماد الحسني وصاحب قلم ... بعد ذلك أخذ بدوي يصطفي لنفسه بحرية الفنان الواعي دون تحزب أو تحيز ما يراه أكثر تناسباً وتلاؤماً مع متطلبات العمل تارة واللوحة تارة أخرى.
قدم للكتاب الدكتور محمد ياسر العبار بتمهيد لأعمال الفنان بدوي في الخط وأنواعه التي برع فيها وهي خط (الثلث) والخط (الكوفي) وخط (النسخ) والخط (الديواني) والخط (الفارسي)، واستعرض معظم أعماله، وأشهر لوحاته، وثلة من تلاميذه الخطاطين وآخرين من رواد الأدب والفكر في سورية، كما ذكر أيضاً إتصال بدوي بالخطاطين العرب في عصره وأصدقائه وزبائنه وما تربطه بهم من صلات طيبة. أما خطاطو سورية فكان فكان ودوداً محباً لهم، وكانوا يؤكدون دائماً على فضله وأخلاقه.
مُنح الخطاط محمد بدوي الديراني وسام الإستحقاق السوري من الدرجة الأولى عام 1968م بعد سنة من وفاته. وكُرّم في لبنان عام 1999م من قِبل مركز البيان الثقافي والمكتب الإسلامي تحت رعاية مفتي جمهورية لبنان الدكتور محمد رشيد قباني، في إطار مهرجان بيروت عاصمة الثقافة العربية، حيث أقيم له معرض وحفل تكريم.
هذا، ويستعرض الكتاب معظم أعمال الخطاط بدوي باشتماله على (لوحات) تشهد على براعته في رسم الخط القرآني، وأخرى فيها: حِكَم، وأمثال وغيرها مما أبدعه بدوي في حياته ...
