يشكل " المعجم الحافظ للألفاظ التي شرحها الجاحظ " معجماً جاحظي الطبع ، يحتوي على قرابة 1200 جَذْر ما عدا بعض المشتقات من بعض الجذور .
وقد لفت المؤلف النظر إلى أن هذا المعجم ليس تكراراً لما قام به الباحث الكبير الدكتور إبراهيم السامرائي في كتابه " من معجم الجاحظ " ، لأن الفارق بينهما من وجهين : معجم السامرائي من شرح السامرائي ، وهذا المعجم من شرح الجاحظ نفسه ، والوجه الثاني أن السامرائي ركّز على الألفاظ الأعجمية والدخيلة والمعرّبة ، بينما الدكتور محمد الشريفي فقد ركّز على مفردات انتقاها من لغة العرب .
وقد تنوّع أسلوب الجاحظ في الشرح بين شرح مسهب ، أو شرح يقتصر على المرادف ، أو شرح يكتفي بذكر بيت شعري يحتوي على المفردة وكأن السياق كفيل بإظهار مدلولها .
وقد اقتصر الجاحظ واختصر في شروحاته خوف الإطالة ، وهو يدرك أن التطويل يورث الملل .
والدار تفتخر بإخراج هذا النوع من المعاجم الذي يشكّل لَبِنة أساسية في إعداد المعجم التاريخي للغة العربية الذي يسد ظهوره فجوة كبيرة في مسار ومسير العربية ...
