في دراسته هذه، يتناول الباحث "رياض محمود جنداري" موضوع المنازعات الدولية التي قد تنشأ عن اكتشاف تركيب أو حقل للنفط على أثر عمليات البحث والتنقيب والإستكشاف التي تقوم بها دولة في نطاق إقليمها البري أو المائي أو منطقة الإمتداد القاري الخاضعة لسيادتها، ويظهر قبل أو بعد البدء في استغلاله من قبل هذه الدولة وتلك، لذلك كله يحاول المؤلف إلغاء الضوء على المبادئ الأساسية التي يتم تقسيم كميات النفط الموجودة بين تلك الدول وكيفية استغلال كل دولة لنصبها، والتي يمكن بموجبها حماية حقوق الملكية المشروعة لكل دولة على تلك الآبار الدولية المشتركة.
وبناءً على ما تقدم حرص المؤلف على تطعيم عناصر بحثه بالممارسات التطبيقية على المستوى: الداخلي والدولي بما فيها من: قرارات واتفاقيات وأحكام وتوزيعها على فصول ثلاثة تسبقها مقدمة يتناول فيها عرضاً موجزاً وسريعاً لتعريف الحدود الدولية والحقول النفطية المستركة الوارد ذكرها في هذا السياق.
بعد المقدمة، تم تخصيص (الفصل الأول) لبيان سيادة الدولة على مواردها الطبيعية في إقليمها وخارج نطاق الإقليم. أما (الفصل الثاني) فجاء متناولاً الطرق الإتفاقية لاستغلال الحقوق النفطية المشتركة، ويأتي (الفصل الثالث) عرض يتضمن "دراسة تطبيقية لتسوية المنازعات المتعلقة بخصوص الآبار النفطية المشتركة، والمبادئ والقواعد القانونية المطبقة على تلك المنازعات".
