"ابن الجزار" هو ثالث مشاهير أطباء القيروان، وهو الوحيد الذي مارس نشاطه الطبي في بلده الأصل. ألف ابن الجزار كتباً عديدة في ميدان الطب ومن أهم هذه الكتب مؤلفه الاعتماد في الأدوية المفردة (العلاج بالأدوية العربية) الذي نقلب صفحاته والذي ينتمي إلى باب أساسي في الصيدلة عند العرب، وهو يُعنى بوصف القُفار، من نبات أو حيوان أو مادة كيميائية، ومنافعه في العلاج. إلى جانب هذا الباب، هناك ما يسمى الأدوية المركبة، ويُعنى بمختلف التراكيب من أكثر من دواء بهدف الاستفادة من خواص كل من العناصر الداخلة في تركيب دواء ما لشفاء علة ما. هذا وقد ذكر فيه جميع الأدوية المشهورة التي يسهل وجودها في كل البلدان، كما واجتنب فيه ذكر الأدوية المجهولة في أرض المغرب وإن كانت عند الأطباء العجم معروفة.
