يعرض هذا الكتاب حياة السيدة أم سلمة هند بنت أبي أمية المخزومية، وأثرها في الإسلام منذ دخولها إليه وحتى وفاتها.
لم يقسم هذا الكتاب إلى فصول بل جعله مؤلفه على شكل موضوع واحد متصل، تناول في البداية نسب السيدة أم سلمة أي العشيرة القرشية التي تحدرت منها وعلاقة هذه العشيرة ببني هاشم من حيث القرابة وعدد أبناءها ومآثرهم في الجاهلية وأثرهم في أحداث مكة قبل البعثة، ... ثم انتقل البحث للتعرف على أسرة أم سلمة القريبة وصلة القرابة التي تربطها بالرسول (ص)، وموقفهم من الدعوة الإسلامية، ثم حاول البحث تحديد تاريخ ولادة السيدة أم سلمة ...، ثم تطرق لإسلامها وهجرتها إلى الحبشة وعودتها إلى مكة مع زوجها عبد الله بن عبد الأسد"أبو سلمة" ثم هجرتهم الثانية إلى الحبشة ورجوعهم إلى مكة ومن ثم الهجرة إلى المدينة ... حيث تأسيس دولة الإسلام، واستشهاد أبو سلمة في إحدى المعارك ... بعد ذلك تناول البحث أهم مرحلة في حياة أم سلمة وهي زواجها من الرسول (ص) وانتقالها إلى بيته ومشاركتها له في معاركه... وكانت نهاية البحث مركزة على أثر أم سلمة في الأحداث التي مر بها المسلمون في صدر الإسلام ابتداءً بوفاة الرسول (ص) وانتهاءً باستشهاد الإمام الحسين رضي الله عنه.
