بعيدا عن الدراسة التاريخية المعتادة، وبعيداً عن أروقة القصور والقلاع الحاكمة .. إتجه المؤلف الأستاذ ( محمد الفيل) فى هذا الكتاب إلى دراسة التاريخ ولكن بعيداً عما أسماء ( الهرم الملكى) فقد إتبع القاعدة الشعبية وموروثاتها التى أفرزتها خلال العصور المختلفة مقاومة لإحتلال أو إستبداد. فنجد كتابه يبدا من عام 330 ق.م وحتى 1798م ( وهو الجزء الأول) فيظهر كافة الأساليب التى إتبعتها الجماعة الشعبية فكان تاريخا بيعداً عن الملوك والوزراء وغوصاً في أعماق الشعب المصرى وثقافته. أما الجزء الثانى من الكتاب فيتناول تلك الحياة المصرية الرسمية والشعبية من عام 1897 وحتى عام 1952 متناولا الجوانب والتطورات الإجتماعية و السياسية والأدبية، ودور الجماعة الشعبية بين انسحاب وعودة قوية. فتتابع مع هذا الكتاب وعلى مدار جزئية الكثير من التغيرات التى أصابت الثقافة المصرية.
