إذا قيل "النادرة في الأدب الشعبي" فقد يتبادر إلى الذهن أن المقصود هو النادرة بين الجماهير أو النص الشفوي فحسب، ولكن الواقع أن الأدب الشعبي ليس هو الذي شاع بين الناس فقط، بل هو يضاف إليه تلك النصوص المبتدئة بين طيات الكتب، وسجلها العلماء كحقيقة ودليل على تيارات الفكر السائدة في ذلك الحين، وفي هذا الكتاب اتجه البحث إلى جناحي الأدب الشعبي وهو الجناح المروي والجناح المكتوب واعتمد فيه المؤلف على ثلاثة روافد خصبة تكاملت فيما بينها: 1-الروايات المتوارثة التي تتناقل الأجيال ولا تزال تنتقل من مكان إلى آخر. 2-النوادر القادمة عبر التاريخ والتي سجلتها الكتب ومازالت تختلط بالحاضر وتقوم بدور فيه. 3-الدراسات التي دارت حول النوادر قديماً وحديثاً وحول الفكاهة بشكل عام.
وقد عمد المؤلف أولاً إلى الوقوف على تحديد معالم النادرة وأنواعها وصلتها بغيرها من ألوان التعبير الشعبي، كما تناول آنفا البحث في جوانب النادرة العربية باعتبارها الأصل والأساس للنادرة المصرية، مخصصاً بعد ذلك باباً هو الثالث للنادرة المصرية المكتوبة منها، والأخرى الشائعة، وهي ولا شك أحد ثالث النوادر المكتوبة ولكنها تحمل بقايا العصور الماضية، وقد تمكن المؤلف من تسجيل بعض النوادر التي شاعت في بينة معينة محدود وفي فترة زمنية امتدت عدة سنوات.
