يوسف العاني (1 يوليو 1927- 10 اكتوبر 2016)، وهو ممثل ومخرج وفنان عراقي مشهور من مواليد بغداد. ولقد نشأ في محلة بغدادية شعبية قديمة تعرف بـمحلة (سوق حمادة) تقع وسط بغداد ويبدو أنه قد أخذ الكثير من أصول وركائز وأشكال كتاباته المسرحية من اجواء وملاذات محلته تلك. وتوفي في احدى مستشفيات الأردن في تاريخ 10 تشرين الأول 2016.

بعد تخرجه من كلية الحقوق - جامعة بغداد كتب العاني عدة مسرحيات ومنها:

حين بدأت. أحسست أنني أعيد ما احتواه الكتاب، وإن خير مقدمة هي الحديث عن طفل صغير أحب المسرح والتمثيل ثم كبر.
وحكايته جاءت في الموضوع الشعري الأول من الكتاب "حتى يكبر" وأن "بين الحدث والحديث" و "سأحتضن أيامي كي لا تضيع" يكملان الحديث عن هذا الصغير الذي كبر، فأصبحت "الإشارة" وحدها كافية، وواجبة..
