يعتبر الحافظ المحدّث السيد أحمد بن محمد بن الصديق الغُماري (1902- 1960م) من علماء المغرب الذين أثروا المكتبة الإسلامية برصيد كبير ومتنوع من المؤلفات، التي أبانت عن مدى تمكنه من العلوم الشرعية، وأظهرت متابعته الدقيقة لقضايا عمره، وما كان يملكه من حسنٍّ نقدي في تعامله مع التراث الإسلامي، على أساس منهجٍ علميِّ دقيقٍ مستند إلى الأدلة، ومعتمد على القواعد، كما تفوق الغُماري في علم الحديث، فقام بنقد العديد من الأحاديث، وخصص لها كتباً ضخمة ورسائل عديدة، وأحيى أنواعاً من الكتابات الحديثية، كالمستخرجات وغيرها، واستدرك على عددٍ من الحفّاظ المتقدمين والمتأخرين، وانتقدهم في كثير من المسائل العلمية.
في هذا الكتاب تحيط الدكتورة فدوى الصادق ابن كيران بسيرة حياة ومؤلفات الحافظ الغُماري وأوردت في التعريف ببعضها طرفاً من إجتهاداته وآرائه، حيث عرف بنصرته للتصوف والدفاع عنه، وله آراء علمية خالف فيها ما تواضع عليه الكثيرون ودرجوا عليه...
وبناءً على ما تقدم قسمت المؤلفة الكتاب إلى فصلين: تناولت في الفصل الأول مولده ونشأته، وما تلقاه من علوم، وذكرت شيوخه ورحلاته العلمية، ونبذة عن عقيدته وتصوفه، وشهادات العلماء وثنائهم على علمه وكتبه.
أما الفصل الثاني فقد خصصتها المؤلفة للتعريف بمؤلفاته في علم التفسير وعلم الحديث وكتب العقيدة وأدرجت نبذة عن بعض كتبه مثل: المسهم في بيان حال حديث: "طلب العلم فريضة على كل مسلم"، وهو من الكتب التي أسهم بها الحافظ ابن الصديق الغماري في بيان درجات الحديث، والفصل في خلاف العلماء حولها... وكتاب "الهداية في تخريج أحاديث البداية" وهو من أجود كتب الغُماري، التي تبين تمكنه من فن التخريج، وضبطه لوسائله وآلياته، وتؤكد على مهارته العالية في ذكر طرق الحديث ورواياته...
وكتاب "المداوي لعلل الجامع الصغير وشَرْحَي المناوي" وهو من المؤلفات النفيسة في النقد الحديثي وفي الصنعة الحديثية... وغيرها من كتب.
