حكم هذا الرجل العظيم فرنسا 15 عاماً وأقام فيها إمبراطورية كبرى، غيرت كثيراً من أوجه الحياة فيها، وفي أوروبا، فقد قاد حروباً عظيمة وشارك في معارك كبرى وكان من الممكن أن يستمر في حكم فرنسا، أو أن يضمن الاستقلال لبلاده والحكم لأحد أعضاء أسرته، لو اتبع العقل والتروي بعد هزيمته في روسيا. ولكن شاءت الأقدار أن ينفى إلى جزيرة البا ليعيش فيها ما تبقى من حياته ذليلاً بعد أن توّج نفسه إمبراطوراً على عرش فرنسا. وهذا الكتاب يتضمن إلى جانب السرد التاريخي لحياة نابليون بونابرت صوراً فوتوغرافية واقعية رافقت هذا البطل من صغره وحتى استقراره في ضريح الأنفاليد بباريس.
