في كتابها هذا، تتبع الدكتورة وداد الديك الحروب العربية – الإسرائيلية للفترة (1948-1982) أي منذ احتلال القدس الشرقية وحتى احتلال بيروت طيلة اربعة وثلاثين عاماً، مع إبراز لدور المقاومة العربية، التي وقفت في وجه الأطماع الحقيقية للصهيونية المتمثلة باحتلال العواصم العربية لتحقيق مشروع دولة إسرائيل الكبرى، وفي هذا تقول المؤلفة "ولكن المقاومة العربية، وإن خسرت القدس الشرقية عام 1948 والقدس بكاملها عام 1967، لكنها أحبطت احتلال بيروت عام 1982، ولن تتوقف إلا بعد إزالة دولة إسرائيل من الوجود، وستعود فلسطين بأسرها دولة عربية عاصمتها القدس".
في ضوء ما سبق قسمت المؤلفة الكتاب إلى سبعة فصول تتناول، المشروع الصهيوني والمقاومة العربية قبل حرب 1948(الإنتداب البريطاني 1920 – ثورة عز الدين القسام (1935) ، الثورة الكبرى (1936) ... ثم الحرب العربية – الإسرائيلية الأولى (15 أيار 1948) ، والعدوان الثلاثي (إسرائيل وفرنسا وبريطانيا) على مصر (1956) ، وحرب الخامس من حزيران 1967 (الحرب العربية – الإسرائيلية الثالثة)، وحرب الإستنزاف ومعركة الكرامة (1967 – 1970) ضد العدو الإسرائيلي، وحرب 6 تشرين الأول 1973 (الحرب العربية – الإسرائيلية الرابعة)، وأخيراً: الإجتياح الإسرائيلي للبنان واحتلال العاصمة بيروت (6 حزيران – 27 أيلول 1982) وما بينهما معركة خلدة واحتلال الليطاني، وخطة فيليب حبيب وترحيل المقاتلين الفلسطينيين والجنود السوريين أول آب 1982، وطرد المحتل الإسرائيلي على يد جبهة المقاومة الوطنية اللبنانية.
