إن العمل روح الحياة، وأساس الحضارة، ومنبع الثروة، ولولاه لما رأيت بيوتاً عمرت، ولا بساتين زرعت، ولا طائرات حلقت، ولا حصلت على ثوب تلبسه أو كتابٍ تقرؤه.
فالعمل ركن هام في حياة الإنسان لا بدَ له من القيام به ولقد احتل العمل وما يزال مكانة مهمة في الحياة الإنسانية، لذا فإن الإسلام يأمر معتنقيه بالعمل بكل أنواعه وأشكاله، وينهاهم عن التقاعس والكسل، وفي هذا المعنى يقول الحبيب المحبوب صلى الله عليه وسلم: "والذي نفسي بيده لأن يأخذ أحدكم حبله فيحتطب خير له من أن يأتي رجلاً فيسأله أعطاه أو منعه".
والعمل عبادةً من أفضل العبادات التي يتقبلها الله عزَ وجل ويجزي عليها الأجر العظيم قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: "من أمسى كالاً من عمل يده مغفوراً له".
