أما خير من يصور الأحداث التاريخية والإجتماعية في تلك الحقبة من الزمن وهدف الكتاب فهو مترجم العمل "جرجيس فتح الله" فيقول: "كانت الدول المسيطرة على هذه المنطقة أيام تأليف الكتاب غير الدول التي تحكمها اليوم.
لقد دالت الدولة العثمانية بسلاطينها ودالت الدولة الإيرانية بقارجارييها وإمبراطورية روسيا بقياصرتها وتخلص العراق من النفوذ الإنكليزي وإحتلاله.
وهذا الكتاب أصلاً يروي قصة مآسي الشعوب والطوائف التي كانت تعاني من نفوذ هذه الدول في الشرق الأوسط وفي مقدمتها الكرد والعرب والأرمن والأثوريون... كيف كانت أطماع تلك الدول تعبث بمقدرات هذا الشعب الأمي يرويها لاهوتي اسكتلدني مثقف للغاية وأديب سياسي قدم مع الأول في زيارة...".
