حفزني إلى الكتابة في هذا الموضوع، أن جميع كتبوا عن تجربة السجن، تحدثوا طويلاً عن ظروف الحياة اليومية للسجن، وبصفة خاصة عن اللحظات - التي طالت أحياناً - القاسية إلى حد بعيد، وعن التعذيب (بشئ من المبالغة أحياناً كثيرة)، لكنهم جميعاً أغفلوا تقريباً - إلا من إشارات عابرة على ما أذكر - الحديث عن جانب هام جداً من الصورة، ألا وهو ألوان النشاط التعليمي والثقافي والإعلامي والرياضي والترويحي، ونشاط تنظيم الأحوال المعيشية، التي كان المسجنون يقومون بها، في ظروف كثيراً ما كانت صعبة، وذلك على الرغم من الأهمية الكبيرة لألوان النشاط هذه على ما أظن.
وهكذا فقد قررت أن أكتب عن هذا الجانب الذي لم أجده في كتابات الزملاء الآخرين حتى تكتمل الصورة، خاصة وأن هذا الجانب هو الذي لم نكن فيه، نحن المسجونين، مجرد عنصر سلبي من عناصر الصورة، أي مجرد متلقين ومستسلمين أو مقاومين لما يحدث لنا، بل كنا نشكل عنصراً إيجابياً فعالاً، يجعل من الظروف الصعبة التي نعيشها فرصة لا نضيعها، حتى نكتسب مزيداً من الثقافة ومن المعرفة، بقدر ما تسمح به الأحوال، لكي لا تكون فترة السجن فترة ضائعة من حياتنا.
