المؤلف في سطور، ولد في فريج المنارة بأم سقيم إحدى قرى دبي الساحلية، ونشأ في بيئة بحرية مرتبطة بصيد الأسماك وصناعة السفن والغوص على اللؤلؤ.
تشرَّب وهو في سن الطفولة قصص الغوص والبطولات التي عاشها كبار المواطنين من البحارة، حيث كانت المجالس تزخر بمن يتردد عليها من جميع فئات المجتمع البحري من طواويش ونواخذه وغاصة وسيوب، وقد رسمت هذه القصص والروايات في مخيلة المؤلف صوراً مختلفة عن هذه الرحلات وأنواع السفن ومعداتها وأدوات الغوص. لازم والده صانع السفن الخشبية على طرازها القديم الأصيل قبل أن تنالها رياح التغيير والحداثة، فكان مساعده في هذه المهنة وهو لم يتجاوز العاشرة من عمره، وقد أحب هذه المهنة وكل ما يرتبط بها، حتى إنه عشق الخشب ورائحته!
كما جمع بعض القصائد المرتبطة بالبيئة البحرية، ووثقها في هذا الكتاب، ولم تكن قد نشرت من قبل.
التحق بالعمل بالقيادة العامة لشرطة دبي كطيار هليكوبتر، ومارس الملاحة الجوية كجزء من مهام مهنته، تلك الملاحة التي هي فرع من الملاحة البحرية الأصيلة.
وهو شغوف بالخرائط والملاحة ومراقبة النجوم والتعرف على أسمائها ومواقعها.
