اعتمد الكتاب طبيعة التعبير الذاتي لدى الإنسان في نبض مشاعر الحب، تلك المشاعر التي تتجه من داخل الذات إلى ما هو خارجها لتتضح طبيعة فهمه وتقبله للأشياء والأفكار على عموم حياته ووجوده.
وقبل أن يطرح موضوع الحب في تشكيل الحبكات العالمية وجد هذا الموضوع بشكل رئيسي في نتاجات الأدب الأسطوري والملحمي، حتى امتدادها في باقي الأجناس الأخرى.
وقد قام الكاتب بتقسيم الكتاب إلى فصلين معتمداً آلية ما مدى إمكانية النص الدرامي الفنية في الكشف والتعبير عن مفهوم الحب؟ وتجلت أهمية الكتاب بإعتبار موضوع الحب موضوع وجودي أخذ من النص الدرامي بعده التعبيري والبنائي والإنفعالي.
ويعتبر الكتاب من الدراسات التي عنيت بمفهوم الحب في النص المسرحي، وكونها دراسة ذات تحليل تاريخي - أسطوري - ساسيولوجي وجودي تفيد القارئ من الإختصاص وغير الإختصاص بإعتباره موضوع سماوي حياتي وجودي.
ويهدف الكتاب بالتعرف على المفاهيم الخاصة بموضوع الحب وإنعكاساته على الذات في النص الدرامي عبر المراحل التاريخية العالمية، واختتمت المقدمة بتحديد بعض المصطلحات.
أما الفصل الأول فقد تضمن الحب في الآداب القديمة ويضم محورين الأول موضوع الحب في الأساطير، وقد اختار الباحث عشتار أنموذجاً، إما المحور الثاني موضوع الحب في الملاحم فقد اختار له كلكامش أنموذجاً، وشمل الفصل الثاني موضوع الحب في النص المسرحي العالمي.
