يقدم هذا الكتاب قراءة جديدة لقضية نحوية في القرآن الكريم، تتعلق بموضوع (النصب على نزع الخافض والتضمين)، وخاصة أن الباحثين المحدثين كتبوا كثيراً في هذا الموضوع، ولكن المؤلف الدكتور عبد الجبار فتحي زيدان له مآخذ على ما كتبه السابقون، من كون النصب على نزع الخافض والتضمين هي من المواضيع النحوية، تقليداً للنحاة القدامى، وهما في الحقيقة "قولان مختلفان، ومصنوعان، ترتب على الأخذ بهما في إعراب القرآن وتفسيره مآخذ، ومن المعلوم أن القرآن الكريم أُعرب وفُسّر استناداً إلى القواعد النحوية التي دونت في كتب النحو، فتكون المآخذ التي وقع فيها المعربون والمفسرون، مصدرها وأساسها أقوال النحاة، لذلك كان من البديهي أن أنسبها إليهم جميعاً على حد سواء".
ولدراسة هذه القضية النحوية يبدأ المؤلف بالعودة إلى كتب النحو فتبين له من خلال هذه الدراسة أن النحاة قسّموا النصب على نزع الخافض قسمين: قياسي ، وسماعي، وذهبوا إلى أن السماعي، منه ما هو مُطرد، ومنه ما هو غير مُطرد، وأدخلوا ضمن هذا الباب المفعول لأجله، كما وجد المؤلف: النحاة والمفسرين كثيراً ما قرنوا النصب على نزع الخافض بالتضمين بل كثيراً ما حاولوا حل ما اعترى القول الأول من إشكال بالثاني. وبهذا المعنى، يصل المؤلف إلى نتيجة مؤداها أن السبب هو في "إخضاع لغة القرآن للقواعد النحوية المستنبطة من أشعار العرب".
