Book Description
"يخلّد هذا الكتاب بين دفتيه رجالاً كانوا من بناة الحضارة وأنوار الهداية، وقد بذلوا أعمارهم في خدمة لغة هذه الأمة وصيانتها والحفاظ عليها. وخلفوا تراثاً عظيماً تتلمذت له أجيال من الناس في كل علم وكل فن". لقد أغفل ذكر هذا الكتاب معظم الذين قاموا بترجمة أعمال المؤلف الدمشقي "فقيه الشام وعالمها ورئيسها ومؤرخها، الذي "ترجم لكثيرين من المفسرين والمحدثين والقراء والفقهاء والشعراء وإن قلّت مشاركة بعضهم في علوم النحو واللغة".
لم يعتمد المؤلف في ترتيبه للحديث عن هؤلاء لا "على سنوات الوفيات ولا على الشهرة والتقدم، وإنما رتبه بحسب الحروف الهجائية، وقدّم من اسمه محمد أولاً في باب كبير.."، يليه باب الألف، ثم تتسلسل الأبواب حسب حروف الهجاء. ويقول محقق هذا المؤلف أنه "تحقيق للقسم الأول من الكتاب وهو المحمدون وفيه 223 من التراجم.."
أتى على ذكر رجال "من القرن الثاني والقرن الثامن وما بينهما من القرون، وتتبع علماء العربية والإسلام من الأندلس حتى أقاصي بلاد العجم وما بينهما من بلاد أفريقية ومصر والشام والجزيرة والعراق". تتراوح المعلومات التي وضعها المؤلف عن كل من هؤلاء، ولا تأتي متساوية، فـ "فريق جاءت ترجمته موجزة مقتضبة في حين وضع لفريق آخر، تراجم مطولة أسهب فيها وأطنب". "وهو يذكر في الغالب العام اسم المترجَم له وكنيته ولقبه وبلده وأساتذته، وتلامذته ورحلته إن كان صاحب رحلة، وكتبه وسنة وفاته ومكانها، وقد يذكر بعض شعره إن كان شاعراً..".
يهدف هذا الكتاب الذي يتضمن فهرساً بأسماء التراجم، إلى تنوير دور هؤلاء العلماء للعامة،عن طريق "نشر أخبارهم وسيرهم ومآثرهم فما ذلك إلا وفاء لبعض ما لهم في أعناقنا من حق الأستاذية وحرمة الفضل والتقدم".
