فى الحديث الذى رواه أبو داود والترمذي وابن ماجه فى سننهم, وأحمد فى مسنده أن رسول الله "صلى الله عليه وسلم" قال: "افترقت اليهود على إحدى أو ثنتين وسبعين فرقة, وتفرقت النصارى على إحدى أو ثنتين وسبعين فرقة, وتفترق أمتى على ثلاث وسبعين فرقة". ولكن ماذا عن هذه الفرق؟ وماذا عن أفكارها وآراء أصحابها؟
من هنا تأتى أهمية هذا الكتاب الذى بين أيدينا, كتاب "مقالات الإسلاميين واختلاف المصلين" للإمام أبي الحسن الأشعري, لأنه يقدم لكل باحث إجابة عن هذه التساؤلات التى طرحناها, إذ يعتبر هذا الكتاب بحق استقصاء وتسجيلا أمينا لهذه الفرق والاتجاهات الفكرية التى شهدتها الساحة الإسلامية منذ وفاة النبى الكريم "صلى الله عليه وسلم" وحتى بدايات القرن الثالث الهجري.
ولأهمية هذا الكتاب, اعتبر هو العمدة فى هذا الباب, فاعتمدوا عليه, ورجعوا إليه فيما يتعلق وتاريخ الفرق الإسلامية واختلافها فيما بينها, فكثير ما ينقل عنه علماء كبار أمثال الإمام ابن تيمية الذى نقل عنه فى "مجموع الفتاوى" و"منهاج السنة". وقد كان رحمه الله تعالى-كما يقول- ذا خبرة بأقوال المتكلمين ومذاهبهم, فتتبع أقوالهم واختلافاتهم بدقة بصير بمذاهبهم خبير بأقوالهم.
أما عن عملي فى الكتاب فتلخص فى النقاط التالية: قمت بعمل مقدمة موجزة وأوضحت فيها أهمية الكتاب وقيمته العلمية, قمت بعمل ترجمة مختصرة للمصنف, ضبط النص, خاصة وأنا لاحظنا اختلافات بينة ومؤثرة بين الطبعات التى وقعت بين أيدينا من هذا الكتاب, تخريج الأحاديث النبوية الواردة فى الكتاب والحكم عليها, الترجمة للأعلام الوارد ذكرهم فى الكتاب, الترجمة للمصطلحات والألفاظ الغربية التى وردت فى الكتاب.
