يبحث القسم الأول في طرق الفحص خارج الفموي وداخله، في حين يتناول القسم الثاني تحري القلح باستخدام المسبر والهواء المضغوط. أما القسم الثالث فيدور حول التقليح وتسوية الجذور باستخدام مختلف الأدوات حتى فوق الصوتية منها.
ويخصص القسم الرابع لعمليات شحذ الأدوات ومبادئه في حين تناول القسم الخامس الصقل وقواعده الأساسية. أما القسم السادي والأخير فيبحث في خطة المعالجة وقلق المريض والسيطرة على الألم، ثم في التجريف اللثوي وتعليمات ما بعد الإجراء العلاجي.
