قبل أن أطرق الباب ناداني الحاجب: إرجع فتوضأ يا هذا.. قلت: إنني متوضئ فصاح بي، وضوؤك يحتاج إلى وضوء! قلت في نفسي: إن هذا الرجل مثل (الحلاج) وغيره من مجانين الصوفية، لما توضأت وأقبلت على الخيمة فرحاَ ناداني: إذهب وأغتسل وانطق بالشهادتين! فتعجبت كثيراً.. ثم فعلت ما أمر به.. وأتيته هرولة. فقال لي: استغفر الله ألف مرة حتى يؤذن لك.. لعل.. وعسى! فظللت استغفر واستغفر.. حتى هممت بالرجوع! وتسائلت: ألا يكفي كل هذا الإستغفار؟ فقال: استغفارك يحتاج إلى استغفار! وما يدريك أن توبتك تحققت! فما بين زمان (وعصى) إلى أوان (فتلقى) ثلاثمائة سنة!! سألته غاضباً أي ذنب إقرفته أنا في هذا اليوم؟ فهز رأسه وقال: انظر إلى يديك الملطخة بدماء الحلاج!
