ويتوزّع محتوى الكتاب على ثلاثة فصول تُعنى جميعاً بحراك التجربة القصصية في جزء محدد من الجغرافية العربية، هو سورية، في غير مرحلة من نشأة هذه التجربة، وتطوّرها، ومغامراتها الفنية، وإستجاباتها لتحوّلات الفنّ القصصي في النصف الثاني من القرن العشرين، وهي، جميعاً أيضاً، تنطلق من الوعي بأنّ قارئ النصّ القصصي، والحكائي عامة، ولا سيما الناقد، قاصّ، أو ساردٌ، ثان للحكاية التي يرويها النصّ، فهو يستعيدها وفق مخزونه المعرفيّ بفنّ السرد من جهة، ووفق كفاءته النقدية من جهة ثانية.
