تنتقد مسرحية "زفرة السوري الأخيرة" الروابط القمعية التي ربطت بين البلدين التوأمين سوريا والعراق نتيجة حكم حزب البعث لهما. وذلك بفضل ضباط نشأوا وتربوا وتدربوا في نفس المكان. ففي النص يلجأ الجنرال "سعدون" الهارب من جحيم خرب الخليج وسقوط نظام صدام حسين إلى الفردوس البعثي الأخير في سوريا. حيث استقبلت سوريا كل البعثيين الهاربين من سعير المطاردة في العراق كمجرمي حرب.. وهكذا يدخل الجنرال بيت صديقه "أبو كمال" الراحل باعتباره بطل حرب. ويبدأ في الكشف عن ميوله التسلطية والقمعية محاولًا بسط نفوذه وفرض آرائه على أفراد العائلة، كما يليق بجنرال تربى في حضن حزب البعث. وذلك دون أن يعبأ بمعنى حياة أسرية يسودها الحب والود والتفاهم لا التسلط، هذا التجاور بين مستويين متنافرين يسمح بتمرير وجهة نظر تنتقد التسلط والقمع وتبتعد بهما عن معنى حياة طبيعية.
صهيل الحصان حكاية في مسرحية. حكاية حصان يعشق القمع يدين بالولاء لمن روضه وكسر أنفه وامتطاه، وأسرجه وركب الحديد في فمه وقدميه. حكاية حصان احتبس صوت صهيله خلف أحبال القمع. صوت الحرية المسرج، المروض والمكسور. ولكنها ليست حكاية حصان بقدر ما هي حكاية القمع الذي كان قدرًا قدره الحكام على شعوبهم العربية لعقود طوال. حكاية البندقية، العصا، حبل المشنقة والسجن والسجان، والمثل السائر الذي يقول "لا تشتر العبد إلا والعصا معه إن العبيد أنجاس مناكيد". والوصت الذي يصهل، في هذه المسرحية، بخلاف صهيل الحصان هو صوت مسجون برتبة سجان يعرف كيف يذيق أعدائه، ممن هم أصدقاء الحرية، سكرات الموت. هو ليس سجانًا بالمعنى المعروف. إنما هو رجل لا يكتمل تعريفه إلا بالقرب من أدواته: البندقية، الهراوة، الحبل، الحذاء، المقابض والمقامع الحديدية. إنها صورة ملتقطة بعناية تعيد لأذهاننا معنى المسرح وضرورته في حياتنا التي عبثت بها الميديا الحديثة.
