تسعى هذه الدراسة إلى طرح مجموعة تساؤلات، وعرض مجموعة مشكلات، في محاولة لإيجاد إجابة للمجموعة الأولى، وتلمس حلول للمجموعة الثانية، ومن هنا كان محور الارتكاز فيها أساسا قائما حول محاولة استكشاف طبيعة العلاقة الجدلية بين الشعر كإبداع وصياغة جمالية، وبين المادة التاريخية والفلسفية كانماط من الفكر البشري.
وهنا تتوالى الأسئلة التي تحتاج إلى إجابات مفصلة يحاول البحث استقصاءها من خلال شواهده النصية وأدلته التاريخية، ومن أهم هذه الأسئلة الكبرى: ما مدى التلاحم الفعلي بين تاريخ الأدب والتاريخ بالمعنى السياسي؟، وما طبيعة الحركة الشعرية في إطار تفاعلها وصدورها عن الرؤى التاريخية؟، ثم ما هي طبيعة علاقة الشاعر مبدعا بالمؤرخ أو بالفيلسوف عالما. وما محاور تلك العلاقة بين مناطق التأثير والتأثر، أو مواقف التوثيق أو الإضافة أو استكشاف الثقافة ومادة الفكر؟
أسئلة كثيرة حائرة تطرحها هذه الدراسة لتتبع قافلة الشعر العربي منذ أحادية مصادره الثقافية في عصور النقل الشفاهي، إلى أن تصل معه إلى مراحل التقعيد والتقنين والضبط والتدوين.
