أردت من تأليف هذا الكتاب أن يكون أشبه بموسوعة فلسفية تشتمل علي مذاهب ونظريات وأفكار فلاسفة تعارف علي تسميتهم في تاريخ الفكر الفلسفي الإنساني بأسم فلاسفة "الفلسفة الحديثة".
وطبقاً لما تصورته فقد آثرت أن أبدأ الكتاب بباب يتضمن فلسفة العصور الوسطي وعصر النهضة في الغرب لما لهما من آثار ما زالت باقية ربما حتي يومنا هذا, قبولاً ورفضاً, تأسيساً وتطويراً. ثم باب ثان يتضمن المذهب العقلي ممثلاً في أكبر ممثليه: ديكارت وبسكال.. ومالبرانش.. وسبينوزا.. وليبنتز.. ثم باب ثالث يتضمن المذهب التجريبي وخير ممثليه جون لوك.. وجورج بركلي.. وديفيد هيوم.. مع إشارات داخلية في متن الباب إلي توماس هوبز وفرنسيس بيكون.
ولعلي أكون صادقاً مع نفسي أولاً ثم معكم إذا قلت أن تاريخ الفلسفة الحديثة يتضمن عدداً أكبر من هؤلاء الذين أتي الكتاب علي ذكرهم ولكنني أشرت إلي أهمهم وهم المؤثرون والمؤسسون, وهم الرواد والأساطين.
وتمشياً مع روح الكتاب.. فهناك كتاب ثان عن "الفلسفة الحديثة من كنط إلي رونوفييه" وفيه أستكمل الحديث عن بقية الفلاسفة الذين كان لهم تأثير مباشر علي الفكر الإنساني برمته.. شرقاً وغرباً.. أمثال: كنط.. وهيجل.. وشوبنهور ونيتشه وغيرهم وهم كثر.
وأشتمل الكتابان علي أهم الأفكار والنظريات التي عالجوها في مؤلفاتهم المتباينة, ولكن يمكن إيجازها علي كثرة هذه المؤلفات في: نظرية المعرفة وهي ميتافيزيقا تحليلية تناولت تحليل طرق المعرفة وشروطها ويقينها وغيرها من موضوعات المعرفة.
