هذا المؤلف عظيم في مادته، نافع في إحاطته لكل ما كتب ودون في موضوع النعال الشريفة، فجمع كل ما يتعلق بها لغة وشعراً، وسيرة ورواية، وبيان أوضاعها وأشكالها، ورسماً مصوراً للنعال الشريفة. وقد صنف كتابه هذا في مصر عام 1020هـ، وكان يكتبه كل يوم من وقت الضحى إلى الظهر، حتى كمل بفضل الله ومنه.
وبالجملة، فهذا الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا لؤلؤة من اللآلئ المحمدية، التي تنبئ عن مجعزاته، وخاصيته، ومدى محبته، فكل محب للنبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، يريد العلم، والتبرك، لا يتباطأ في معرفة وصفه، وصفته ووصف آثاره، ومتعلقاته، فكان دأب الصحابة الاهتمام بالنبي صلى الله عليه وسلم ومحبته قلباً وقالباً، روحاً وجسداً، حتى التراب الذي يمشي عليه، بل وأكثر من ذلك بكثير.
وقد جعل المقري هذا الكتاب في فاتحة وأربعة أبواب وخاتمة. الفاتحة: في معنى النعل والقبال والشراك والشسع في اللغة.
الباب الأول: في بعض ما ورد في النعال الشريفة من الأحاديث النبوية.
الباب الثاني: في صفة المثال الحاكي لنعال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، لبعض أئمة الإسلام.
الباب الثالث: في إيراد نبذة من المقطعات الرائقة والقصائد الفائقة المقولة في المثال المعظم.
الباب الرابع: في جملة من خواص المثال المجربة ومنافعه المنقولة.
الخاتمة: تشتمل على زبدة ما يتعلق بالنعال والمثال.
