يحتوي هذا الكتاب الذي نقلب صفحاته على أربعة كتب للإمام المحاسبي، وهذه الكتب هي: أولاً: كتاب المسائل في الزهد وغيره، ثانياً: كتاب المسائل في أعمال القلوب والجوارح. وهذا الكتابان يتناولان موضوعات متشابهة تتعلق بأعمال القلوب والجوارح وتصفية لنفس وما يصدر عنها من أعمال ظاهرة وباطنة. ثالثاً كتاب المكاسب: وهذا الكتاب، كما يدل عنوانه، يتعرض لمسألة الكسب في طلب الرزق واختلاف ذلك من محموده ومذمومه، كما يتعرض لمسائل التوكل والورع والشبهات، وما إلى ذلك، ومذاهب السلف في هذه المعاني. رابعاً كتاب العقل، وهو كتاب صغير الحجم ولكنه بالغ الأهمية، ومن يقرأ هذا الكتاب يرى ما أودعه فيه المحاسبي من آراء ونظريات سبقت عصره، وأثارت إعجاب العلماء من المعاصرين له واللاحقين، ومنهم إمام الحرمين الجويني وغيره.
