موضوع هذا الكتاب من أهم واخطر الموضوعات والشكلات الاجتماعية المسكوت عنها فى المجتمع المصرى، ولاتتأكد أهمية هذه الدراسة من خلال أنها تقع فى نطاق مناهضة العنف ضد المرأة فحسب، ولكن لأنها أولاً: تركز على شكل مهم من أشكال العنف الجنسى الموجه ضد المرأة، ألا وهو التحرض الجنسى سواء كان ذلك التحرش الجنسى الذى يحدث للمرأة فى شكله العام داخل المجالات والسياقات الاجتماعية المختلفة أو ذلك يحدث داخل الأسرة، ويطلق عليه التحرش الجنسى بالمحارم، ثانياً: لأنه يتناول مشكلة التحرش الجنسى والتى لم تلاق أى اهتمام أكاديمى يذكر من قبل. ثالثاً: أن الدراسة الراهنة تحالو دراسة التحرش الجنسى من خلال وجهة نظر سوسيولوجية تعتمد فى المقام الأول على أساس اعتبار التحرش الجنسى فعلاً وسلوكاً اجتماعياً يحدث فى سياق التفاعلات اليومية للأفراد، وأخيراً فإن هذه الدراسة تعد أول الدراسات السوسيولوجية عن مشكلة التحرش الجنسى فى المجتمع المصرى.
