إن البحث الذي سماه الدكتور يانغ (بدو الرشايدة: رعاة الإبل والأغنام في شرق بلاد السودان) لدراسة نابغة تدخل القارىء إلى عالم (الرشايدة) وتوضح لهذا العالم تفاصيل حية عن الشؤون العائلية داخل الخيمة. كما تعطي صوراً أكثر للمجتمع في داخلها. وتبين لنا هذه الدراسة أيضاً عادات وتقاليد مراسم الحياة اليومية عند الأعراب، التي تبدو للقارىء الأميركي بأنها بالغة التهذيب وفائقة العادة في تعقيداتها، وما تتركه العادات الشعبية من أثر في المعاملات الإجتماعية جديرة بالتأمل والدراسة.
وحياة "الرشايدة" يتم وصفها من وجهة نظر شخص عايشها فعلياً، فقد تعلم (بيل يانغ) لغة (الرشايدة) العربية وارتدى ملابسهم وأصبح لفترة وجيزة عضواً من أعضاء إحدى العائلات الرشيدية، كما تعلم الإستجابة للأحداث والمشاكل كواحد من رجال (الرشايدة). وعند قراءة هذا البحث يشعر المرء في بعض الأحيان بأن وصف حياتهم قد تم بواسطة شخص رشيدي الأصل وليس بواسطة مؤلف أميركي غريب عليهم. ويتأكد هذا الإنطباع عندما يصطدم القارىء بالتحليل المتطور للرموز الظاهرة في سلوك (الرشايدة).
