يعد هذا الكتاب ومنذ عقدين من الزمان مرجعاً هاماً للدراسات الجامعية وفوق الجامعية في مجال الإحصاء عموماً، والإحصاءات الاجتماعية والسكانية على وجه الخصوص، كما أن هذا الكتاب يشتمل على عدد هائل من التطبيقات في فروع المعرفة المختلفة كالاجتماع والخدمة الاجتماعية والتربية والاقتصاد والإدارة. بالإضافة إلى هذا يمتاز هذا الكتاب بأن الشرح في كل جزئية منه واف ومفصل ومدعوم بالأمثلة والتطبيقات، كما أن المؤلف لا يكتفي بتوضيح دلالات تلك المؤشرات ومبررات ومواضع استخداماتها.
وكل ذلك يتم بطريقة سهلة ومدعمة بأمثلة إيضاحية مبسطة، وذلك بعكس معظم الكتب الإحصائية الأخرى التي نادراً ما تشير إلى الفلسفة والمنطق من وراء تفضيل مؤشرات إحصائية بعينها دون أخرى، بل تكتفي ببيان كيفية حساب تلك المؤشرات. علاوة على ذلك، فإن كل فصل من فصول الكتاب يختتم بعدد من التمارين التي تغطي كل مادة الفصل، مصحوبة بإجاباتها.
وبالعودة لمضمون هذا الكتاب تجد أنه قد جاء مؤلفاًُ من جزئين نظراً لكبر حجمه، فيما تغطي مادة الجزء الأول موضوعات الإحصاء الوصفي ومبادئ الإحصاء الاستقرائى، ويتناول الجزء الثاني تحليل العلاقات الثنائية والمتعددة المتغيرات وما يرتبط منها باختبارات الفروض علاوة على إيراد فصل موجز عن أسس المعاينة و أنواع العينات. وتعتبر المادة الواردة في الجزء الأول مقدمة ضرورية لدراسة موضوعات الجزء الثاني من الكتاب.
