إن علوم القرآن غزيرة، وضروبها كثيرة، وعلم التنزيل هو أحد هذه العلوم، والكتاب الذي نقلب صفحاته "للإمام الواحدي" بتناول هذا العلم حيث دون فيه المصنف أسباب النزول لينتهي إليه طالبوا هذا الشأن والمتكلمون في نزول القرآن الكريم فيعرفوا الصدق. وقد تناول أولاً مبادئ الوحي، وكيفية نزول القرآن ابتداء على رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، ثم تعهد جبريل إياه بالتنزيل، والكشف عن تلك الأحوال، والقول فيها على طريق الإجمال، ثم يفرغ للقول مفصلاً في أسباب نزول كل آية روى لها سبب مقول، مروي منقول، وقد جاء هذا الكتاب مزيلاً يحقق للطيف بقلم "كمال زغلول" وتحلي عمله بـ أولاً: ترقيم التراجم التي ذكرها المصنف، ثانياً: ترقيم أسباب النزول، ثالثاً: عزو الأحاديث والآثار للكتب التي أخرجتها، رابعاً: البحث عن الأسانيد التي لم يذكرها المصنف، خامساً: إعداد فهارس فنية للكتاب تيسيراً على الباحث الرجوع للآية و الحديث في زمن وجيز.
