إن علوم القرآن غزيرة، وضروبها جمًة كثيرة، يقصر عنها القول وإن كان بالغاً، ويتقلص عنها ذيله وإن كان سابغاً، وقد سبقت لى - ولله الحمد - مجموعات تشتمل على أكثرها، وتنطوى على غررها، وفيها لمن رام الوقوف عليها مقنع وبلاغ، وعما عداها من جميع المصنفات غنية وفراغ، لإشتمالها على عظمها متحققا وتأديته إلى متأمله متسقا، غير أن الرغبات اليوم عن علوم القرآن صادفة كاذبة فيها، قد عجزت قوى الملام عن تلافيها، فآل الأمر بنا إلى إفادة المبتدئين بعلوم الكتاب، إبانة ما أنزل فيه من الأسباب، إذ هى أوفى ما يجب الوقوف عليها، وأولى ما تصرف العناية إليها، لإمتناع معرفة تفسير الآية وقصد سبيلها، دون الوقوف على قصتها وبيان نزولها.
ولا يحل القول فى أسباب نزول الكتاب، إلا بالرواية والسماع ممن شاهدوا التنزيل ووقفوا على الأسباب، وبحثوا عن علمها وجدّوا فى الطِّلاب.
وقد ورد الشرع بالوعيد للجاهل ذى العثار، فى هذا العلم بالنار.
