أردت أن أقف على حقيقة حال تلامذتي طلاب اللغة العربية بجامعة السلطان قابوس؛ ففاجأتهم بنصين من الشعر العربي حملتهم على أن ينقدوهما، ثم نفدت نقودهم لهما من حيث مفردات تعبيرهم الكتابي عما يريدون، ومنها مسائل خطية صريحة كالإملاء والتشكيل والترقيم، ومن حيث رسائلهم التي عبروا عنها وهي مسألة تفكيرية صريحة، دون أن أؤخر مسائل مفردات التعبير بزعم أنها ظاهرية شكلية مادية عن مسائل الرسالة بزعم أنها باطنية مضمونية معنوية، مؤمناً بامتزاج الظاهر والباطن.
لقد كان ذلك تجربة طريفة مثيرة، وعويصة معنية، شغلت هذا البحث كله، ثم أفضت إلى استيضاح مظاهر من الكسل متظاهرة على عدم تدقيق استعمال مفردات التعبير الكتابي وعلى عدم التأتي إلى استيعاب الرسالة الواردة، لقد اجتهدت أن أتأمل تلامذتي ونفسي حين كنت في مثل حالهم، فأضفت طرفاً من خبرتي بفلسفة التعليم وسياسته، لا أجد له عادة مجالاً، فكانت في إنجاز هذا البحث راحة كبيرة، ثم رسالة خطيرة إلى القائمين معي على هذا الأمر.
