"ليلى والمجنون في الأدبين العربي والفارسي" كتاب ضم بين طياته دراسات تاريخية علمية نقدية ومقارنة دارت حول الحب العذري والحب الصوفي في مسائل الأدب المقارن، فشرحت الحقائق ألأدبية على ضوء التاريخ، ولم تغفل بيان الأصول الفلسفية للأفكار الصوفية، لتربط الحركة الأدبية في ذلك بالتيارات الفكرية العالمية. في الباب الأول تم التحدث عن أخبار المجنون في الأدب العربي القديم والحديث، وذلك بعد أن مهد للموضوع بالحديث عن نشأة الغزل العذري، وهو الجنس الأدبي الذي تنتمي إليه أخبار المجنون وأشعاره في العربية.
وفي الباب الثاني تم التحدث عن أخبار المجنون في القصص الفارسية، حيث تم عرض كل القصص الفارسية الخاصة بالمجنون في المكتبات المصرية للطباعة كانت أم محفوظ وتم عرضها عرضاً موجزاً حيث تم بيان مميزات كل مؤلف، وإيضاح خصائص الموضوع في الأدب الفارسي...
أما الباب الثالث فجعل للدراسات المقارنة في الموضوع، وفيه تم تبيان الصلات التاريخية بين الأدبين العربي والفارسي، كما وتم تبيان التأثير العربي في القصص الفارسية، وشرح الخصائص التي انفرد بها الموضوع في ذلك الأدب، إلى جانب هذا تم الحديث عن نشأة الحب الصوفي.
